About the Trinity Doctrine God uses his holy spirit to aid Christians to an understanding of his word. Before one can can comprehend and appreciate God's purposes for the church and the blessings of all the families of the earth through the church, one must have received the holy spirit in order to obtain such an understanding. All truths pertaining to Christ, his atoning sacrifice for the believer and the unbeliever, and the restoration of all things, God revealed to his apostles by means of his holy spirit. Thus, it is the apostles especially that these truths were revealed to. (John 14:26; 16:4-13; Galatians 1:12; Ephesians 3:5; 2 Timothy 2:2) Christians today have these truths available in the writings of the Bible itself. (Ephesians 3:3-12; Colossians 1:25,26; 1 John 4:6) One has to, however, walk after the spirit in order to understand the spiritual things revealed in the scriptures. The natural man, being by nature children of wrath (Ephesians 2:3), who walk by the flesh, not the unseen things of the spirit (Romans 8:4; 2 Corinthians 4:18; 10:3; 2 Peter 2:10), cannot appreciatively understand these matters not yet seen except by the eye of faith. (Mark 4:11; 1 Corinthians 2:7-10; Hebrews 11:1) God's holy spirit is likened to God's finger (as the power of God). (Matthew 12:28; Luke 11:20) As the revealment of truth, the holy spirit is likened to God's "mouth". (1 Kings 8:24; 2 Chronicles 6:4; 36:12,21; Ezra 1:1; Isaiah 1:20; 40:5; 45:23; 48:3; 58:14; 62:2; Jeremiah 9:12,20; Ezekiel 33:7; Micah 4:4; Matthew 4:4; Mark 12:36; Acts 1:17; 28:25; Hebrews 3:7; 9:8; 10:15,16; 2 Peter 1:21) Even true Christians who have received God's spirit, however, can fall short of walking fully in the spirit, may offend the holy spirit of God -- the mouth of God, in effect speaking or acting in disobedience to the mouth of Yahweh (1 Kings 13:21; Ephesians 4:30), so that on some matters their minds are carnal. (1 Corinthians 3:1,3,4; James 4:4; 2 Peter 3:17) Thus, while the writings in the New Testament, as they were originally written, do have the truths promised by Jesus, yet very few Christians are able to comprehend these truths. Why? Because there was an apostasy, a falling away, from the pure truth, which had already begun in even while the apostles were still alive. Partly due to this apostasy and its blinding influences, Jesus spoke, concerning his return, that there would various degrees of faithfulness and knowledge amongst his servants, and he asked the question: "The Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?" (Young's Literal Translation). -- Luke 12:42-48; 18:8. The holy spirit sent by God through Jesus revealed to the apostles that there would be a falling away. (Matthew 13:24-30; Acts 20:29,30; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 4:3,4) This falling away had already begun in the first century, with some receiving a different spirit and preaching "another Jesus"; however, the apostasy was restrained for only a short while. (2 Thessalonians 2:7; 1 John 2:18,19; 2 Corinthians 11:4) After the apostles died, and without their spiritual influence and guidance, the apostasy spread rapidly throughout the Christian community, leading eventually to the development of the "Man of Sin", or more correctly "Lawless Man", or "Illegal Man", a great religious system unauthorized by Jesus. The leaders of this religious system claimed that they, also, had the apostolic spirit so as to have the authority to add to God's Word, or even overide the Word of God. Eventually, no man could work, spread the truth, because of the foretold darkness. (John 9:4) The Hebraic usage of the words EL and ELOHIM seemed to be no longer understood very well by these leaders, for they claimed that if Jesus was called THEOS, and since the Bible says that there is only one true THEOS, then Jesus had to be only true THEOS. The failure, of course, was in not understanding that the Hebraic background offers more than one shade of meaning to the words from which the Greek THEOS was translated. This we have discussed in our study on the Hebraic Usage of the Words for God.* With this spirit of error in mind, the writings of the apostles were totally reinterpreted to accommodate the error, and many of the Hellenic Jewish philosophies were adapted and added to and blended in with the New Testament, even as the Jews had already done with the Old Testament. Satan, the deceiver, has used the doctrines of men as a means to hinder the work of the holy spirit from producing a understanding of the full Gospel*** message that is presented in the scriptures. As long as one looks at the scriptures through the trinitarian (or oneness) spectacles, he is not sufficiently submitting himself to the spirit of truth as revealed in the Bible, and will be hindered from its full understanding.** There are four basic viewpoints concerning the relationship of the Father and the Son: Two other views are also prevelant, that is, the "God-family view," (promoted by Herbert W. Armstrong), and the Mormon view (Yahweh is not the Father, but Yahweh is Jesus, and Elohim is Father). It is easy to think that, because there is such a large number of voices coming forth in favor of the trinity and very few who know how to, or have the time to defend the hebraic viewpoint (often called 'Arian' viewpoint) of the sole supremacy of Yahweh, the Father of Jesus, against each and every attack that is made against it, therefore the trinity must be true. One who knows the truth on this subject may not have time to continue answering the same questions over and over, nor to answer each and every question that is brought up. This does not mean that because of this that the arguments presented by trinitarians (or others) are true. Satan is said to be deceiving the entire world. (Revelation 12:9) Just because a teaching is thought to be finalized by the popular doctors and scholars of divinity does not make it true, no matter how popular the teaching might be. A Christian must separate himself from the world, and be no part of its evil and carnality, for to the extent that he is harmony with the world, he will be under the influence of Satan and his deceptions, and out of harmony with the spirit of truth and the God and Father of Jesus. (John 14:17; 15:19; 17:14-16; 1 Corinthians 1:21; Galatians 6:14; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:8; James 4:4; 1 John 2:15,16; 3:1) Historically, the trinitarian apostasy joined forces with Satan's world, and the trinitarian sect thought to conquer the world by means of carnal implements of this world rather than wait for the Master to return to set up his kingdom in all the earth. As such those involved in this were like the bad servant Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:48,29 and Luke 12:45. But one does not have to be a trinitarian to fall for Satan's trappings along this line, for it appears that those historically referred to as the Arians temporarily sought to do the same thing, and certain leaderships today that hold to "Hebraic" doctrine also have set themselves up as rulers over the Yahweh's people. It is not that the basic Biblical truths are extremely hard to understand, but they are made difficult to understand because of all the assumptions and additions that have been added to what the holy spirit revealed to the apostles. We can read a multitude of claims made by trinitarians (as well as the "oneness" teachers); some of which are easy to answer; others are put forth with so many assumptions and twists that are added to the scriptures that it does take much time, and also a lot of verbal wordage, to present an answer in such a way as to make sense. In other words, the truth has to be pulled away out from the midst all of the human dogma that has been attached to it, which human doctrine actually perverts the truth. It is frustrating at times because most indoctrinated trinitarians seem to be so absorbed in their extra-Biblical terminology and concepts, which they see almost everywhere in scriptures. In actuality the philosophy has been placed over the scripture so that the scripture is being filtered by the philosophy, thus blinding the indoctrinated trinitarian to what the scripture is actually saying. Many scriptures were corrupted by copyists. Add to this the fact that most of our translations are the product of trinitarian scholars who wished to see the scriptures translated in such a way so as to make them appear to support the added trintarian dogma. We doubt that many solid-rock trinitarians will ever be swayed away from the trinity teaching, because it has become something like an idol to them. They seem to think they need to cling to this idol, else they will not be saved. It actually becomes a hinderance to fully knowing our Lord and his God. The trinitarian and oneness dogma, like many other imaginative teachings added to the Word of God, usually lead to a strong, condemnatory, sectarian spirit, that would pronounce an eternal condemnation upon all who refuse to accept the trinitarian dogma. How often Satan leads a trinitarian to denounce his fellow Christians who do not believe as he does as being unsaved, not having the holy spirit, etc. One of the scriptures often used for this denunciation is John 8:24, which they misinterpret to mean that if one does not believe that Jesus is Ehyeh of the Old Testament, then that one will be eternally doomed.* Often the non-trinitarian Christian will judged, if he does not accept the trinity dogma before he dies, as going to some horrid, evil, place, to suffer unimaginable incruciating pain for every second throughout all eternity!** Oh how Satan is hindering the Christian from the truth by these teachings added to what the holy spirit has revealed! On the other hand, Satan can use other doctrines of men to separate non-trinitarians into a sectarian spirit also, so that we may hear a non-trinitarian claim that any person who believes the trinity cannot be a Christian. Satan sets up human doctrinal hinderances for both the trinitarian and the non-trinitarian, especially to produce a sense of hatred, rather than love, for fellow-servants of Christ, and thereby hinder the development of the Christian in Christlikeness. Nevertheless, Trinitarians and "Oneness" believers have to change their whole way of looking at the Bible in order to come to the truth. Very few are willing to do this. With the flood of material being sent forth in support of the trinity and "oneness" doctrines, the truth has "fallen in the street" as rubbish to be swept away. -- Isaiah 59:14,15. While Jesus was accused of blasphemy because he said he was the Son of God, and that he only did the Father's bidding, so likewise, Bible Students today are often accused of blasphemy because they believe Jesus is the Son of God, not God the Son - as though he were equal to the Father. We believe that Jesus is not the Supreme Being, because we find this to be more in harmony with the entire Bible, and especially as it relates to the atonement as provided in Jesus. The entire Bible is completely harmonious without adding the trinitarian or oneness philosophies to the Bible.
Trinitarians often do not realize that they are adding a lot of rhetoric when they make their assertions regarding three persons in one
being. Assuming that what they have added and read into the scriptures is in fact, truth, then then proceed to view the scriptures through this added rhetoric, seeing trinity
almost everywhere in the scriptures. The heathen religious philosophies
often refer to a triadic god being manifested in three persons -- "three
gods", similar to the modalist view. It appears that the trinitarian
philosophy is built upon this, as Arius calls all these views heresy. We believe that we need to understand the New Testament through the teaching of the scriptures already written, which declare that the coming Messiah would be a prophet like Moses, who also was called ELOHIM. (Deuteronomy 18:18,19; Acts 3:19-23; Exodus 4:16; 7:1.) The New Testament itself builds upon, not Greek philosophy (although it is referenced), but the Hebrew Scriptures. -- Matthew 4:4; John 5:39; 8:17,18; 10:34-36; Luke 24:44-46; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Isaiah 8:16,20; Acts 17:11.
